...ima be the odd one out here in this comments section but...... erna honey i know for a fact when he said 'let's do it' to divorce u heart was hurting. There is no way you dont love him. You are in greif and despair after losing and you pushed all that pain onto him as you had no other outlet. You fear having to have another baby your 'responsibility' as a wife to produce children. Yes he is scum for what he did with not telling about Gladys. But he clearly loves her. Looks at the chapter when he was shopping for baby and erna when she was going through that loss... he is a man. He doesn't even realise his own feelings..... this is the whole point of the story he is problematic.... what will happen now is he will pursue her and she will 'fall for him again' but she still loves him. I think he is right she was running away cowardly. Marriage is hard but you shouldnt take it lightly. He also lost that baby. You dont know how he feels you are just assuming because of how you were treated before. Its a mass of misunderstanding and lack of real communication. ╥﹏╥
