No, I don't think so. I don't think he has sympathy for Bum. I don't honestly think he's capable of sympathy as he doesn't really see what he's doing as wrong. He just.. does it.
Can't feel bad for your if you think your actions were fine.
It's more that he needs him, he needs someone to accept him.
I think he likes him in his own way, but at the same time he doesn't like Bum for the person Bum is, more for how his mind has twisted him to be. He's more in love with the idea of Bum. If you can call it love...
We saw a lot in the chapters a little while that in Shangwoo's mind he was comparing Bum with (and having flashbacks to) his mother. She and Shangwoo were probably being abused by his father and so had a very close relationship, he looks like he's got a mother complex tbh, and when she tipped over the edge, she brought him with her. And in a lot of ways, Bum's become his mothers replacement. Who knows, perhaps Shangwoo and his mum even had a sexual relationship, I don't really remember the story well enough. And she's still haunting him in a way.
Shangwoo has the mentality of a child. He wants to be loved and for someone to love him. But he doesn't really get what that is.
I don't know how to say it, I haven't really put these thoughts into words before.. And I really need to reread this manga.
I don't really know a lot about Lima Syndrome but I don't really think Shangwoo has it, at least not the proper version of it. If he had it he'd probably apologise and let Bum go, or hand himself in, not tie Bum to him further with a shared murder.
He could have a more twisted version of it but like I said, I don't really know enough about Lima or what's going to happen to agree with that just yet.

Few people consider Lima Syndrome real. There's no studies claiming it's validity. Similarly, Stockholm Syndrome is not a recognized psychological condition. It wouldn't be surprising for someone to not have heard of it.
It's like they've never heard of Stockholm Syndrome..
