It matters because I am attached to the characters and don't want to see them changed so drastically. I wouldn't mind if Yuuri topped if they both acted like themselves. But they don't. At all. It took two really great characters which are actuallly complex and diverse, and transformed them in to stereotypical, one dimensional yaoi tropes who may as well be leaking sparkles.
Characterisation is mostly on the Doujinka/Circle, I agree with wanting to read an in-character Yuuri/Victor but not a lot of people can do that. Even if I read a dj where Victor is so beautifully written his Yuuri is some stereotypical 'uke/seme' or vice versa.
My only problem is after reading so MANY djs on Victuuri I still see people complain something along the lines of 'VICTOR IS A TOTAL SEME WTF R U DOING DOUJINKA?!" or "WTF Yuuri is totally an UKE!!because compared to Victor he's meek" every time I try to read a YuuVic dj especially. For once when I try to read a YuuVic dj I just wanna read comments from people enjoying the freely translated dj with other fans. Is that too much to ask?
I totally get where you're coming from. Negativity is tiring, as is this constant obsession with the whole "uke" "seme" trope. My gripe with Yuuri topping is an extremely specific thing(which honestly has only ever come up with this specific show) because I find Yuuri so damn relatable. That boy wants to be held. Let him be held! Lol
This may be insensitive but if you wanna read more on Bottom!Yuuri then it's much better to look for the VicYuu only tag. Better yet, go to 'Mandarake' and buy DJs with VicYuu content- VicYuu is WAY more popular that YuuVic so you'll find more on that dynamic. Which is a sad thing for me who prefers they switch.
I could say the same thing about Victor topping- a lot of people make him into a super seme that controls Yuuri who is suddenly infantile and can't do anything himself or they change his 'look' to make him seem more girly/childlike. But I'm already used to this when it comes to DJs. But seriously there is nothing wrong with wanting either to bottom- it's not like bottoming=the weaker in the relationship. Both dynamic is GREAT ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
My only problem is that a lot of people take their VicYuu complaints to the YuuVic djs side. It's like complaining to an apple vendor why they don't sell oranges

Lol, you're not wrong. I don't think people should take it too seriously though. For me, it's light hearted banter and that's fun. I don't really go looking for djs in general. I just click on whatever pops up which looks interesting.
And yes. I just want the characters to be the characters, but people are free to have fun with them however they want, even if I don't like it. It's like cosplay, really. People simply enjoy a story or character and want to make it their own. But I'm still going to whine. Because I'm a person who enjoys whining. Lmao
I'm sure that most people don't take it too seriously, but I do hope that if people comment on VicYuu on a YuuVic dj that they do it sparingly. Or not at all tbh, I've seen people spam disqus in MRM- I had to resort to blocking them. But cheers to more in-chara Yuuri & Victor
