I thought it took place a thousand years after? That the pink haired chick (who was with purple dragon guy) Inherited the River Grass form the MC of Doulou 1, sh'e his descendant hence the 'Tang Clan' recruiting. Also Yuhao's two brothers and the White Tiger Duke are obviously related to the White Tiger guy from Doulou 1. I actually don't know who Wang Dong is related to (Food God guy?) At least this is what I think from what I remeber reading. I could be wrong about the thousand years part. But I remember in the beginning when they spoke of that guy who ascended to be a god. I believe that was the main character of Doulou1 (river grass, tang hammer guy). I could be wrong but I sdo think it's him. This mahua just takes place in the same universe, but with new characters, and descendants of the first manhua, thats really the main connection.
I don't remember how long after DD1 this is set - I just know it is set at least several hundreds years after DD1. As for characters, only ONE of major character is explicitly said to be directly descended from the main characters from DD1. Which one, I won't say because SPOILERS. Everyone else with familiar spirits are only related by extended family.
And I WILL say the girl with the Blue Silver Grass IS NOT related to Tang San.
