You should read shounen ai, not yaoi if you're disturbed by even fictional rape. Yaoi is PACKED with rape, it's honestly more likely to find a rape than not if it is just yaoi, i suppose you could try one labelled as both shounen ai AND yaoi if you just NEED the explicit sex scenes without rape. Reading yaoi and then being upset about the rape is like playing that knife game with your fingers and getting upset when you get cut.
What an idiotic thing to say. Yes there is a lot of rape in yaoi but you can also easily find non-rapey yaoi and to say that if you don't like rape you shouldn't read yaoi is truly the dumbest thing ever.
It's almost like saying 'if you don't want to get raped don't walk the streets in a dress at night'. Pretty much the same thing.
And why are so many people here defending rape in yaoi? I don't think all of them actually like rape, they just feel like it makes them cool to defend it I suppose? Like 'oh, I'm so tough and cool, I like rape, I'm not like those weak uptight people who dislike it' Lol, so lame.

Nice strawman... As far as it "looking tough" or whatever stuff you said, just no. I literally just said that because it is a fact that yaoi has a lot of rape in it... If it just labelled "yaoi", it will more likely than not have some edgy molestation or borderline/full-blown rape, the ones labelled shounen ai wont. You clearly can't handle facts and would rather throw yourself into the metaphorical fire while complaining about your metaphorical burns than take solid advice to avoid them entirely. Also, sure, you can find light yaoi, if you go very far out of your way looking. That's the issue for the more softcore readers, yaoi is in general more inappropriate so finding a shounen ai-ish yaoi is rare. There is also the issue of the traps (not what you're thinking), the yaoi that will come across tame and the BAM! Random rape or just plain disturbing scene followed by it going back to being cutesy.

Hi! To answer Raven question...what's wrong with rape in fiction? I think that some people feel that if your ok with rape in a work of fiction you might be ok with it in real life! Most people who like it in fiction of course are against it in reality, but at the same time you never know! And I think that in there lies the problem! Me personally I don't like rape in yaoi, if I know that there is that content in one I'm about to read I just won't read it! Sometimes I begin to read a yaoi and oops! there it is....if I like the story I'll continue to read it to see how it end but if I don't or the tape is in the very beginning I'll stop reading it right there!
