I don't think it's completely wrong of Skyler's mom to take a step back to try and stop herself from doing something unforgivable. But 4 years is a long time and during that time, nothing about her mindset changed. It's really unfortunate that she couldn't get the support and love she sorely needed for her mental health.
Skyler as a kid is a bit annoying but he's also precious and if he was my son, I don't care if he's annoying because its not even his fault. Holding the little bundle of joy you held in your stomach for 9 months would be the greatest gift I could hope for. And for another woman to take over those responsibilities would make me feel ashamed. But Skyler's mother also seems to have mental problems so it's a better environment.
