Well, I feel sorry for Gensuke but Sougorou has been hurt for a long time (so many many chapters) that he doesn't want to let his guard down anymore. It was quite late for Gensuke to realize that he has been hurting Sougorou and that he also loves him. So, I guess it's normal for this miscommunication to drag on.
