The problem only occurs if he DOES come clean. If he thinks he can't protect her how is telling her going to do anything but make it WORSE?
And how is his change for the better, only being that he is not letting people ride roughshod over him, anymore, related to telling Sera his secret?

As I was trying to tell you but you seemed to have missed John was NEVER a dictating bully. You only have Claire's version of events. Y'know the one who befriended John by defending him from the bullies then bringing her friends to a fight in order to oust him from his position as king and blaming the injuries those same friends received on John? I know who I'D prefer to trust. And it ain't the one who shares the same hair color as that b**** Elaine. Thx.

Those ARE John's memories. He hated who he became as much as he hated that hierarchy that led to betrayal. He wanted real friends that would like him for who he was rather than fakes that would use him for his abilities. I know that he was used and set up. But John never wants to become that person again. Someone who is obsessed with power and only knows how to dominate other people who oppose him. It's a complex he has against high tiers, he hates them because he was not only bullied by them but because he was them. He hates the domineering society that made them.
You need to come clean to Sera. This secret is pushing you into a corner and you are sinking back into the mud. You need to self reflect before you self destruct and ruin everything you changed for.
