Its not like it safe in the palace,he got raped, abuse, traumatized, emotionally attacked and stuff, dude if it was someone who far weaker than him especially since they both just a kid. they will be heavily damage mentally. Its not fun and games for him so why not try to ease the pain a lil? And he do things for his sister, everything he was doing was for his sister but he have feelings too, hes a kid who want love too, why cant he seek for one? Why cant he yearn for one? His sister maybe in terrible condition but listen, if she in the palace will u guarantee her sister wont be having mental breakdown? Pleasing such cruel political figures, involved in royal drama, while they both just a kid to the booth. Hes far from selfish, if u still think hes selfish then wow all human near u even ur parents are selfish for not think about u 24 hours a day.
He is living a better life few than before if he can fall in love while at a horrible place as you say. The moment he arrived at the palace he did whatever he wanted without thinking about the consequences (sister replacing him). The story was about helping his sister and he knew what would happen when he would replace her so shouldn't he be thinking about things other than pursuing love and getting into trouble all the time. He keeps forgetting about his sister until somebody reminds him of her.

Dude, u act like its selfish to be human thats my problem is. He is a KID, hes 13 and u failed to see that. Even for any age, raised on different status without proper education on new environment what should u expect him to act? He do what he can, why not try to find something to ease his sanity while hes on this shithole full of any piece of crap human? He deserve his own happiness too as much as his sister and hes not wrong for that. He not forgetting her, he tried to save her right? It's not about him deserving happiness or not but rather thinking about he is only thinking about himself. Since you pointed it out, isn't hoping for his own happiness and love in the difficult environment with the situation he is in selfish? Isn't he being selfish for going to there with mission to replace his sister but end up wanting to be loved instead? He wants to have the person he love, love him back. Just because he deserves happiness doesn't mean he should forget all about his sister. I agree that his situation isn't good for a boy his age where he needs love and care but I don't understand why you think he isn't being selfish.
