Regarding the stereoypes, why not portray a muslim woman who chooses not to cover her hair or face. Not every muslim community has such a culture where they make their women and girls where hijabs. It's a bit sad how a symbol of oppression is being viewed as "cute" or as "fashion". Maybe if you are from S.A then such strict hair covering is viewed as part of the religion, but this isn't the experience of Islam throughout the world.

Well true. Not all Muslim girls wear hijab. Some countries force the women to wear Hijab, like KSA and Iran. Others don't. But if you really want to get down to it, some families themselves force their daughters and wives to wear hijab. It may not be an act of violence, like literal forcing, BUT they do so by raising the girls to believe it's a natural part of being a woman. You grow up, you become 9, you wear a hijab. Too simple.
And yes it has indeed become a symbol of fashion. There's literally blogs and accounts and online shops called "hijab fashion", so the main idea behind hijab, which is to wear modest clothes and cover yourself up so you don't attract the other gender's interest, is technically lost. But who cares, right? As long as you're covering your hair and body. For me that's totally messed up! And honestly I hardly believe any girl ever truly thinks it's her choice to wear hijab.
I didn't read the manga but, you're comment stopped me.

I'm Muslim and not wearing hijab either and to be honest I find it too stupid to be forced :( Iran was such an open minded country but after the Islamic revolution everything changed also I hated when some Muslim countries banned hijab in name of secularism after all it's your own choice and faith

Anon here, a good example as to how the hair covering is a symbol of oppression is how the women in Syria react to the scarves they have been forced to wear after their area gets liberated from Daesh. As soon as Daesh is removed, they rip their niqabs and hijabs off of their bodies, this isn;t just Christian women removing their head scarves, but muslim women too. Culturally a scarf would have been worn by both men and women to protect them from the weather, but today the scarf is used to demean and oppress women and girls. It would be more representative to show a muslim women who is not being forced to cover her hair, as that isn't Islam, it's abuse.

Religion is your way to God not to a horrible life and it's so sad to see women forced to hide their heads and faces in name of religion but the worst thing in my opinion that some women are convinced and fine with it cuz they started seeing themselves as a sexual tools and they need to cover it plus since when covering your head made u a princess of faith ?

To be honest i dont know why all people complain about hijab lm a girl who were hijab and it an order from god but also the god want the woman who wear it to do it by all the faith from her heart not just pretend it as a part accessories (but also not to forget its a part of our culture not something new ) but to me if a girl dont want it she can be a muslim and still not wearing hijab( but that to me l dont like this adea) in my arabian countery there is rare to see girls wearing niqab(covering the face except eye ..while hijab covering the hair) most the girls are wearing hijab of different fashion and designs nowdays but again i dont see it as a hijab if it give attention

i respect your opinion but l want to explain something ...What type of hijab iran forcing ? Most of girls hair showing. the idea of forcing it is to cover your body and prevent many unethics behaviors that can occur and i dont to get into a deep discussion cause it will need me 100 years to explain.
also its not be forcing to make a girl 10 years to wear hijab thats because she is still young to know whats good for her can you let your child do something you see it will lead to hurt her so when a parent let a child of 10 year to wear a hijab its a care from them to introduce her to the religion and protect her (how can a child differentiate between what is better for her in this age )but if this girl grow to be an adult its her choice to continue or to not (again and i want to say that when you wear hijab is because it an order from god from your creator not doing its to not be attractive i dont care about how guys may see me i care thats the god want me to do it . (hijab dosent make you ugly how can people married ) at last i wished i didnt annoyed you .

hijab is not oppression for god's sake you just make it look like were forced t be Muslims hijab is just another preferences whether your family is forcing you or not its not oppression just because you wanna follow a specific rule plus ts true hijabs are cute nada here is doing it by her own will because of her own environment she just is used to it
