yes I've seen this trend in many anime as well. It is probably a culture thing, well even if you look at Western advertising usually it is sexy skinny woman eating an icecream or chocolate and when it is beer or meat or burgers they use beefy men as models/ actors.
"Eat sweet things" can be such a understatement...
My husband sleep-munches on speculoos biscuit (when it's their season), and is generally weak to any kind of cake I bake (or cookies, layer cakes or desserts).
We had interns from all over the world in the office, and it was the guys who plundered the cookies reserved for customers...the girls kept nibbling on some salad to keep their waistline

Is there something wrong with people in Japan?... Why would anyone think is strange for men to eat sweets... everyone eats sweets... everyone likes sweets... Men all ocer the world love sweets!!! Wtf...
