they haven't given Alex any redeeming quality yet DG is love stricken even though he is treated like a pest.
Also Alex's past does not excuse his behavior in the slightest. people get cheated on all the time, that doesnt mean you get free range to be an asshole. the only good thing about him is that he is making his stance on the relationship very clear to DG to avoid any confusion. But thats also why it doesnt make sense for DG to be so in love.
