One of my least favorites

It's weird how many people seem to genuinely love this story because it was one of the few I did not enjoy.
To me, the two men don't even seem to like each other all that much.
But, different strokes and all.

i agree too...somehow..i felt the inequality in their love so much... while mu chan was giving and kind character....shu was pretty much stiff and also quite mean most of the time...

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I mean, I'm happy other people enjoyed it,
but I was surprised so many readers really loved the story
because it just did nothing to me.

Noooo their love is equal its just that mutsuki given his environment is too straightforward and clingy and showy. while shu is a classic japanese guy. Most japanese guys that i know seem cold on the outside but when they love they give it their all. This is also the main reason why there is a difference between i like you and i love you for them but sometimes compare to other people with other nationality saying I like you is plain i like you but in japan this do not work. I like you when said, has the same intensity as love. Hence, why shu is so stingy in saying i love you to mutsuki.

What i like in this couple is that they complement each other and fill in the gaps each person is lacking.. they are just perfect for each other

No they're not. You're just giving excuses for Shu to act shitty towards Mutsuki. Funny how that happens in every culture, including Japan.

I find that people use culture as a convenient excuse for all sorts of things.
I mean slavery, discrimination, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, honor killings, etc... have all been a part of various cultures, but that does not make them OK.
In the end a shitty relationship is still a shitty relationship, no matter where it takes place.

Exactly. After all, you can be from a different culture like Japan and still treat your partner with respect. The fact that we even have characters like Mutsuki in a variety of manga like this proves the point and the fact that mangaka recognize this.

Yeah, he was toxic but j don't think there are differences in their love. Shu had to change a lot because he was a lot worse. Then again he's is till abusive. Now him not saying openly I love you and whatever, that only matters if the other person cares but Mutsuki understands his lover (it took him time to get there). Characters like Shu (leaving aside the abusive part) are interesting because they are cold toward their surroundings except when it matters. Like when mc was in trouble at work and he thought of a way to help.
Then again, I'm not very of Shu and he should come clean to his family (but maybe that's just me).
