I get the feeling that actually Mayuko's a single mom, she lied about husband, And she ran away from the wedding because she already carried a child of Madoka. Their love story is like.. one little mistake led to serial mistakes which couldn't fix anymore.
BTW The mangaka dragged on story of the girl for many volumes, while actually the core plot is story of her mother Mayuko & Madoka, whom both are much more charming characters.
