This is a romance adaptation of a real Vietnamese historical story of 2 ruler military general sisters. The Trưng sisters (c. AD 12 – c. AD 43) were Vietnamese military leaders who ruled for three years after rebelling in AD 40 against the first Chinese domination of Vietnam. They are regarded as national heroines of Vietnam. Their names were Trưng Trắc (徵側) and Trưng Nhị (徵貳). You can google their story and read the actual historical story, 0 to little romance in that historical story. There are Vietnamese books of their actual story as well, very inspirational. Her husband was killed by the Chinese governor who were oppressing Vietnam (I don't know if the author will follow this story). She rose up to fight a long with her sister as a revenge for her people, and for what she and her husband believed in.
So some people were wondering why the romance is going so fast. In the OLD VIETNAMESE days, unwed men and women exchange a few poem lines with one another across the street or the river (from a distance) to enact their "romance". There are very rare cases that people get to marry someone they like through these brief poem exchanges. Why the poem exchange? it is consider as a "normal" talking instead of a "romance" experience which is frown upon. Even the act of a woman talking to a man in the street is seem as a scandalous thing. Not to mention, Trưng Trắc is the daughter of a well known general. People also fell in love very fast back then too. So the author wanted to make the story more romantic by having them encounter in a "normal" way, having some conversation. Their "romantic" encounter in this story is totally made up by the author to try to fill in the gap of their historical story.
