I think it's one of those weird phenomenon where if a zombie eats a persons body, but the person has that sense of authority and dedication to a beloved someone. That zombie will too share all of those feelings and memories thus having a sense of "living" but is still dead.

Whoah hold up.....so basically the original dad died and the zombie that ate dad is now her dad so the dad is the zombie but it's not the real dad... Who owns the ring? Is it the zombie or the dad?
