The side pair doesn't get as much "panel time" as the main couple. Naturally, their relationship will have to be less complicated and, in a sense, more "one-dimensional" in order for their relationship to blossom; side couples have to end up together with less chapters and, thus, opportunities for development are limited. That's why they just "hit it off" so quickly. They contribute in lightening the mood during conflicts between the main characters. They essentially serve as an additional fluff X smut element when we're feeling sad on behalf of the main couple's (in this case, Alex and DG) conflicts. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I guess my tastes have become more “gourmet” as I get older so I have higher expectations for even side couples from authors cuz I love the angst the main couple has, whereas the side couple just feels a little meh for me personally. There are a lot of manga in which I become heavily vested in the side couples (sometimes more so than the main though rare) but not in this case ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Why every romance story, the side pair always get together first and not the main pair?
