Totally agree with you on this one. Literally the first moment Yanek said to Diesel (human form) was he think that people who abuse "DOGS" are monster (or something like that). And the author did put some hints about this matter here or there so it's not that hard to see.
Tbh, I do really like yanek, but in this triangle relationship, there are no right or wrong do-ers, no black or white if you look at different character's POV. Just one big fat gray area. That's what make this flashback act so enjoyable to see how things gonna unfold.

do i necessarily hate yanek? not at all because everyone has a past as to why they are how they are now. we know the other characters’ so i’m sure there’s something for yanek too.
it’s an abusove relationship. yanek probably doesn’t even realize this himself. he sees diesel as a dog, something he owns but not as a human or an equal and it shows in his actions. although i don’t hate him, he’s toxic for diesel. diesel won’t be able to heal properly if he stays with yanek but that’s just my take on it.
this isn’t love; it’s ownership.
