I actually don't hate him right now; I'm anticipating his character growth. He did some horrid things in the past, obviously his choices and other people's dynamics got him there. This time, the circumstances are different. It was actually implied that he's always loved Tia, but his jealousy and hubris got the best of him. He never recognized it as love because he saw her as a rival. Everything had been too late when he realized, even in the end, it was hard for him to admit it.
Maybe in this lifetime, he can repent by loving her forever.
