If they get closer the Vampire will want to be by Akihiko's side forever and thus he'll want to turn him into a vampire.. Which he doesn't want to fall for easily.
But if he doesn't, then Akihiko will die eventually leaving him alone again
It's a really awful scenario, being a vampire. It's tough.
