His friend looks almost exactly like him but slightly taller and has had like maybe 5 pages of character development. Maybe people just like him because he looks like a taller version the hot mc and we know literally nothing about him other than he has a crush on his mini-me.
It’s just clear from his actions that he truly cares for the Mc that’s all
