Did you think he cared about money or prestige if he did he wouldn't have married a gypsy he pretended to care for the sake of Anton coz he wanted for him to be accepted as his heir and not go after someone who would ruin that, not repeat the mistakes he made.
Marrying a gypsy isnt as bad as literally fucking your son. When he married her, that is when he cared less, and still had someone who cared for him, and loved him back. He was more optimistic about his situation.
But now as he is older, and suffered heartbreaking things, he clearly cares about his position and prestige, and less about morale or emotion, which is why he arranges a marriage that would be benefiting him, or boost his public image.
My main point is fatherxSon was not, nor will ever be the ship that worked in the slightist with this story. Because it took a more heavy, realistic turn in the ending, if you were to go down that route, it would've ended in a possible suicide. Forcing your child to do immoral things, especially if it's not that kind of story wouldn't end well.
