To be fair, when people have confessed to me and said they like me, whether a friend or just someone I happen to know. I always say no. Reason being is that the only logical reason I could think of is that, it's a dare. Or other things as well, depending on the person, never good things of course, but I usually assume it's a dare.

'I'm sure he hates me now'
Even if they are talking about their feeling noone gets it.
