I think she knew that when she lost control of the mc, she was gonna be a dead dog. And she derserved it. Her death should have been more painful considering how evil she was.

I wonder if the countess was really in her right mind in the last chapter..... I mean she was so much less composed than she normally is right?!
To me its strange because in her own home she shouldn't be that rattled so I think it was because Cain was there...
We've never seen them actually interact before and he is one of the royal knights, so I think that Cain is directly taking orders form the one puppeting her so she got scared, so scared that she tried to openly order her people to kill someone, even though you get tried in court for murder (probably regardless of status)
I also think that they are probably trying to use the mc to have eyes in the special task force Bc (as another comment pointed out) as soon as she tried to accuse them she was silenced
I dont think Ortzen is trying to betray everyone yet, so I think its more likely that shes being treated like a pawn
