It’s impossible to survive that fall and he is surrounded by mystic beings. This is somewhat a reminiscent of Hotarubi no mori e.
I think he survived, and when he said that he killed a man I think he meant he killed his past self. And now lives isolated and the fact that there are spirits can't really figure out but maybe is just how the story is. At least that's what I want to believe T^T
