I get what your saying (and for the last statement about that utterly frustrating maid with to much time on her hands) but for Kate I think it’s important to consider her point of view then look at her words.
If you take her ‘like’ to be, well-like love in it sincerity, then he won’t like her. She means he doesn’t like her enough to be with her, he has a passing crush. And why wouldn’t he, we all start there then once you’ve been together longer (not necessarily dating) it grows to passion and love.
She says here that ‘like’ isn’t enough for her, which is right. At the beginning where he only fancies her, if he meets opposition (say from parents or community) then his feeling won’t be strong enough to keep holding on to her, then they will break up and her reputation will have been ruined for nothing.
Other than considering these I don’t have anything else to ask you to do ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ hope it doesn’t sound like I’m ranting at you. The fact that she was all ‘see your not chafing after me so you’ve don’t like me’ toooooooootally showed that she wasn’t him to chance her because she does like him. I wish she wasn’t so smart all the time and would just BE WITH HIM ALL READY.

I totally get that she has this "bUiLd a wAlL" mentality when it comes to her feelings, but her invalidating Ian isn't the move yk ? she has a long way to go and I have no doubt that they'll end up together so if im just gonna have to rough it until some third party butts in and tells them some profound statement that changes their respective outlooks. and I do NOT hate her, I actually love kate and her "im not taking your shit" attitude.
