nah its internalized homophobia as well, thats why he said he was weird and was also hurt when Tamaki said he was weird. He feels like the feelings he has for Tamaki is wrong and lets be real if it was a girl he felt this way about, there wouldnt be any of these issues.

nnnnn yea, I guess, but there's more to this than just feeling guilt. I'm queer woman and while I've felt "weird" for liking guys, liking someone of the same sex ate me up more for numerous reasons, so I identify with Shii. That's why it's clear that internalized homophobia is a part of it
i think the way they've portrayed shi is amazing. he was at the age where people start getting curious about sex but his internalized homophobia kept him from completely feeling in love with tamaki. he knew he was sexually and emotionally attracted to him but he just felt guilty and wrong about it. that's why he apologized to tamaki right after he masturbated.
