My limited understanding is that alcohol is a depressant that acts in two ways on your mood. 1st it lowers your stress hormone, cortisol, so that you may briefly feel less stressed. 2nd it interferes with your feel good hormone, serotonin, making you more depressed. Also, alcohol can make side affects of antidepressant medications worse and make it harder to treat depression.

Alcohol shouldn't be taken while taking medicines
