There has been A LOT of discussions about rape earlier on, we all just kinda got used to it lmao

I do think it's good that you mentioned this but honest you could have done it in a better way. Like if you started a discussion about consent or something?

Why did you even comment this? You're obviously not here to get people talking. Did you come here after reading some other manga where people were complaining about rape? Did you feel salty because no one here is complaining?

Most people on here are into this. There are people complaining, you just need to scroll down. We are like 20 chapters in so by now most of the people who didn't like the story have probably decided to ignore it.

While this story involves rape it is so obvious that this story is going into the direction of them falling in love. I can already see it in the rapist/seme based on the little things, though he doesn't realise it. And for some reason the yaoi community has a unspoken rule of "will there be love at the end? Well then rape is ok." I'm not saying that I agree with the rule because I don't but this is fiction and I wanna see what will happen so I'm just gonna keep reading.

I like to keep my comment simple and to the point. I've read many yaoi and josei mangas and if they see rape the comment section will be flooded with people bitching about rape/consent stuff. So i just dont understand why in this particular manhwa people just okay with it? Hmmmm

I think that I already answered your question in paragraph 3 of my initial reply to you. I hope you don't mind me asking but why did you comment that? Was it just out of interest because you really want to know or was it more of a passive question? To me it looks like the latter is the case because of your tone. Why did you make a reference to a specific manga which had less complaints of rape than this one? Why did you decide to make yourself look so rude when you commented that? It does sound like an attack. If you took a nicer tone you could have gotten a really positive response and started a discussion.

To me it just sounds like this manga isn't the right fit for you. Its obvious that you don't like the story because of the rape aspect and that's understandable and we all have our own preferences but you're being rude. Though on the other hand, you did ask a question which is very good. I will answer it again in a different way. This manga isn't just rape. It has story, characters, historical context, some physiological aspects that people enjoy. Some people on here are into the rape aspect (e.g. me - yep am a pervert) but even then we wouldn't support this in real life so we don't need to throw our "moral and integrity away" to enjoy this as it's fiction. Some of us (once again me) are interested in what will happen to the characters. Will the painter get away or will he not? Of course for other people the rape aspect of this story is too much and that's ok, they don't have to read it or like it and as long no one is pushing the story on them, I don't see the issue. If you disagree with me then let me know and tell me why because nothing comes to mind.

Personally I would say that people aren't saying "it's rape" because it's the most obvious thing ever. People did mention it, especially at first and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. IMO it's a good thing to point out rape even if it's in fiction as it means that we are acknowledging it for what it is and yet at the same time we need to remember that none of them are real people. Stories like this show rape as rape but a lot of stories show rape as the most normal thing ever. I'm sure you seen that too since you been here for quiet sometime.

What is historical about this? History about sodomy? pfft Calm down, im just stating some facts here, i don't care if you guys are fucked up people who likes rape and abuse it is none of my concern. I just wanted to point out that this Painter of The Night has no worthy plot to make me sit, enjoy and waiting for the new chapt. It is getting boring because the next chapter will be just that ass Seunghoe raping Nakyum over and over again. That historical tag needs to be removed and u know what? killing stalking is much better ;)

Oh I do agree with you that this is far (like very far) from a accurate historical representation of that culture at that said time. So I am on the "more fantasy than historical reality" train too but I don't consider them to be two separate things and believe that we can have fantasy and fiction together.

The main characters do in fact break the cultural norms a lot and just like you explained. And yes I agree that all of this would be unacceptable and wouldn't actually happen but this is fiction and not meant as an accurate depictions.

I did not study the culture and setting of this story so my understanding of it is limited. I am more aware of medieval British culture but even then that is not my are of study either but I assume that my understanding should be enough for an online argument.

I would first like to point out that you explained your points very well and overall your argument is very good but there are a few things i would like to point out that may help explain some aspects of the story"

-"Seungho has effectively detained a painter, and rapes him every night in full view of other yangban men, and the serving staff." ->So far there have been like 2/3 rape scenes with the two of them and it was done in private. Only one person was aware of it (the servant) so it was not done publicly. I may be wrong but i reread this recently. If I'm wrong please let me know which chapter and page I should check. The servants are aware of it but the action hasn't happened in front of them (chp 32 pg 3) and consider it to be "disgusting" thus showing that their LORDS behaviour is not approved off which is what we would expect to happen in that historical setting. They only obey/work for him out of fear (chapter 30, beginning)

-We can also take a look at the piece of trash the painter is head over heels for. He certainly doesn't approve and is only looking to gain power - I just wanted to say that he is a dick.

-Check ch 27, pg 9 and you will find out that the entire family and almost all of the servants have left which can explain most things you asked in the second paragraph. His whole family and all the servants left - but why? It's not like his father is there to control him. In terms of their power dynamics, it is shown that the teacher/ piece of trash/ whatever he is called is in there to gain more power/status but nothing implies the same about the men he fucks with. If I'm wrong then let me know but I don't think it was implied.

Oh love, I just won't put the effort in when I know that someone is to arrogant to listen. It has 9.5 stars for a reason ;)
