I don't believe it's true, but I like your theory very much. You could also turn it around and say that Cabel is representing life (with all hardships included) and goldy (forgot his name) is the light/heaven/easy way out.
I have a theory:
Our main character is almost dead and she dreams everything. Now she has to decide between the 'grim reaper' aka the moody knight/duke and the 'life boy' aka blonde, friendly knight. If she falls in love with the grim reaper, she will die in real life. and vice versa
