In the book they talk about how hard the secret parts of the beginner levels were so by the 9th floor he actually did end up depending on them so he decided since they worked well together he would stay with them for a while longer
the one thing he said to the two siblings when they followed him into the tower, was that he wasn't gonna wait for them. skip a few chapters: they haven't reached this level yet? guess ill wait for them
