No. He is stuck in the past. When your entire family dies except you, you will blame yourself and then your only relative also blames you. He grows feelings( whatever twisted kind ) for Ed because he was the only one treating him normally and he was like his brother. Imagine you getting one of your family back. That lessens the guilt at least.
At any rate,he did not want to lose the only one who was some semblance of his family to like makeup for his past. He couldnt carry the burden of yet another person. As to why he raped him, will you rape someone who u like remotely? I hardly understand what twisted emotions caused him to rape him? Maybe he knew Ed was escaping his clutches and wanted to trap him the last time?

I am trying to look at both sides and be objective as much as possible... organize my thoughts literally before to make any comments and to be fair too... I'm thinking that since he doesn't have anyone in his family survived, and Ed is the only one he treats like family, and him being treated normally, he doesn't know how to show his affections towards the person whom he considered as special to him... or if there is anything,he thought that violence is the way to capture one's heart coz that was the way he was treated, let alone be blamed for the tragedy. Like he said, family didn't matter to him..if he grew up in that kind of environment with that kind of mentality, then I woukdn't be surprised why he did what he did.. its just really sad how things turned out.
uhhmmm... so after reading ch.54, I'm quite confused though, does that mean Chang feels something for Ed ever since they were young coz he looks like his bro? meaning he likes his bro and his feelings were diverted towards Ed since then that's why he feels Ed is special to him?
