I think anyone who has been reading bl novels and manhwa at least 2-3 years would know that not every chinese historical bl will be like MDZS. It tires and annoys me that every historical bl manhwa/novel gets compared to mdzs, there have been many novels before mdzs and there will be many after it. Comparing each and every single one of them to mdzs or its standard is wrong even if the story setting is similar. They are all different stories and even those in a similar cultivation setting aren't the same

I'm thankful for the spoiler but please don't compare other BL novels/manhuas with MDZS. That story is on a different level of uniqueness. Comparing them will only make your standards for BL novels higher than it was supposed to be. Every novel has their own kind of story to tell, so please dont compare.

The thing about MDZS is I find it's story not revolve around the relationship between lwj and wwx. Yes it's important to the story but its overall plot revolves around the sects and the misfortune of the amulet/yin iron has brought to them. It slike Romance is a part of the story. While in most of these BL romance is the bigger part of the story, not just a part. So yeah it's unfair to compare them side by side.
But to OP, thanks for the spoiler. I'll probs read until the scheming starta and drop it if the story doesn't appeal to me anymore. I love the art lol
Spoilers....
Like seriously only read if you are deciding whether to continue or drop this manhua

I would like to say the premise of this story is really interesting and has so much potential. But...it falls into the typical I call it 'dog blood' trashy drama style. This is far from mo dao zu shi. The characters have no backstory, their motivations and goals doesn't make sense and are weak, they are very one dimensional. I've long given up on recent chinese novels, manhua or dramas because of all these annoying tropes, it was only slightly rekindled because of stories such as mo dao zu shi.
There are several problems I have with the story,
1)the Prince is overly abusive and possessive for no reason. At least give him a back story, albeit a cliche one for me to understand why he acts this way.
2)the villains are bad for... No reasons? They are just bad because they are against the mute slave. And they are stupid as hell, so I don't feel any tension while reading it.
3)the sex scenes are damn weird. But I won't comment on that since most bl novels are that way. But if you wanna compare it to good yaoi manga this will lose out.
4)the slave actually end up talking halfway through the story as the mutism is due to a trauma. I mean, it can make sense, but the whole premise of silent lover is to craft a story where you can love without words isnt it. A cruel Prince moved by a slave who is sincere and convey his feelings through his eyes and body language. But then they have to change it towards the end. Suddenly I feel like the love is really cheap.
5)so halfway through the story, the princess brother who is the king actually set a trap and create a misunderstanding to the prince where he and the Prince spend a night. The Prince got so angry and ignored the slave and found a new guy concubine(sponsored by the Princess). The slave tried to win him back and even present a red bean, symbolises love in his hometown to the Prince and the Prince destroyed it. The slave got really heartbroken and asked to get divorce, then he is captured by the king. In order to get revenge, the slave pretends to be in love with the king to anger the Prince when the Prince was in jail in the Palace for rebelling against the king. Then apparently later we will find out that the Prince knew the King's scheme all along and is purposefully ignoring the slave so that the slave can go to the King's side because... The slave is actually a descendant of the previous ancient dynasty and they hold some sort of special treasure. The palace library will have special records to help the slave find the location. The Prince have ears everywhere, he heard the location, seize the key and then attack the Palace. Now the Prince is the new king. After his grand scheme of taking over the country, he began his journey of winning the slave back. Apparently him ignoring the slave and him being with the new lover are only pretend so that he can get the throne. I am like wth? You put your lover through hell and after you trampled on his feelings, got what you want and now you want him back? Even though there are some description where the author said, oh the Prince was cruel in the beginning, he only aim for the throne but be actually liked the slave, then as his love grows, he don't even care for the treasure location anymore. But still, the way the story présent this character is way too weird and you can't feel sorry for him.
6)literally every guy will fall for the slave in the story. And every girl will hate the slave for snatching guy. Like if this is not ridiculous, idk what is.
So far the manhua is still doing okay. I hope this is an adaptation of the novel and the manhia will have major changes. Apparently in the novel the Prince broke the slaves wrist on the first day of sex, but it is omitted here. So I hope the manhua will be based lightly on the novel, and most importantly let the slave remain to be mute and frame the story better for the characters or else I will be dropping this.
