My theory is that it's not really an over the top really attractive smell, just pleasant enough for people to want to be near him. The guys saw him get cursed and was probably thinking that he smelt super nice but didn't say anything because they were kids and saying that isn't manly. Then when other people started saying it, he realised that it was part of the curse. You get me?
