Even if it were cold, I’d throw the scarf away or give it back to him or whatever instead of accepting it. Honestly, him accepting the scarf means symbolically that his feelings are still “tied” to him and he is dependent on him. He’ll have to seek the ex out to return it and I’m sure the ex did it purposely knowing that and is waiting to ambush him or something
