they are distant relatives, like those big traditional families that have lots of branchs, you know? Their kinship may even be from a lot of generations ago, it is not mentioned, tho.
just an example here: actor Kevin Bacon and his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick have been married since 1988, and only in 2013 thru DNA test, they discovered that they are 9th cousin once removed. Their kinship happened generations at least 9 generations ago, so from my POV they can't be considered "cousins" in the sense that we know now. Oh, and Kevin Bacon is also a very distant cousin to Obama (just a trivia lol)
oh, and just like Kyra Sedgwick said “As long as we’re not first cousins, it’s fine.” I agree with her lol
