Why exactly did he want to kill the hero?

Why does any villain want to kill the hero? xD I think it's because our mc's mentality is a little warped from his past life that he clearly changed this time around o_o but with the mentally unwell who knows why they do things. Some times if you tell yourself something for so long you begin to trust that a little too much.
