Oof, I agree... I feel like it's all superficial because he's only acting like this because of his memory loss. I dunno if this is the way the artist is planning to have the ML redeemed, however, if it is it's unsatisfying and he's undeserving of it. He was cold to her and hurt her, but because his memory is gone--it's suddenly all okay and he's been forgiven of his sins? I'm getting that 'he-abused-me-but-I-cannot-help-but-forgive-him' vibe....
