Got some reason I thought it was funny
The fox said it, the twins' smile/happiness is his source of strength. So if they are in pain or lonely I guess the fox will feel weak, maybe that's why the previous chapter the fox was shown to be under water. That's what I think based on what the fox had said.
If Jason (the fox) is with them. They would be happier because they know that they have someone they can trust by their side. ╥﹏╥
