Is it that important ?

Is it that important to have smut in a story or not ? I have seen several comments about smut and I wonder if it's important for a story to have smut in it for people to enjoy it ? And for the smut, don't expect them anytime soon. SPOILER !!!

They finally did it and there is a scene which shows the process but it's not that detailed. Like you know they are doing it, but the author only draws the upper half.
