Even though I don’t really agree with the grandpa, I definitely understand his worries. I think even though he is a bit meddlesome, it’s not okay to insult him because it’s normal for parents to worry about their children. Especially him that is old and doesn’t know how long he’ll be there for huanwen. He has a point of people regretting if they end up alone and have no one that is there for them, cares for them and them to care for (I mean he’s alone too he knows what he’s talking about) and as sad as this is, friendships often don’t last or are not the same anymore when everyone follows through their paths and develop their own life. That being said, since he’s someone from another generation, his first thought is to think of marriage and children. I disagree with that. You can be happy and not alone, but don’t need to be married for that. Being in a partnership, in a relationship, maybe having a platonic but true life partner etc etc. There are many possibilities. Plus marriage isn’t always the happy life long relationship with a person. Often times couples divorce so...
But I still do understand the grandpa and tbh I think his main problem is that huanwen is alone and doesn’t have someone that is there for him in rough times and cause his first thought jumps to marriage and his beliefs of marriage are solid (maybe he himself just experienced a happy marriage and the ones he knows did too), he wanted that for huanwen. But grandpa doesn’t strike me as a person that would deny any other form of relationship for huanwen. as long as he is with someone he truly loves and the grandpa can entrust his grandson to this person because he believes that huanwen will not be alone and will be loved, i think the grandpa will accept it. I just refuse to believe that grandpa is that narrow minded, so I’m curious to see how he’ll react to what yuan said, cause this was almost a freaking confession
