translation's nuance

in the raws it was said as a exclaimation though — no question mark at the end and he never really says he ‘should have’, it still comes across just fine in this translation and sounds like he’s worried to me. I’m sure it didn’t lose its nuance with people. ╮(￣▽￣)╭ no worries, honey.

the raws used "不早说“ which is usually understood as like a complaint that someone didn't say something sooner. It is usually used in a question or in an exclamation.

The translation is correct, but I think in English when we want to complain that someone didn't say something sooner, we usually say "Why didn't you say it sooner?" or "You should have said it sooner!" It's a little bit different in Chinese, where that one phrase can be understood as a complaint already.

Good to know that it came across fine to you. I was a little bit bothered because it sounded kinda awkward to me :)

no, I’m not the translator lol. but I do have friends who are fluent in chinese that did a quick translation to me when I was desperate for a quick one.

I understand what you mean and where you’re coming from, it’s understandable that sometimes translation have to slightly change things up from the original to get the same understanding, but in this case this doesn’t seem like it changes the nuance to me where it makes a huge difference. to me it still comes across as a worried/angry/shock complaint similar still to something like “why didn’t u say it sooner?”, saying “you didn’t fucking mention it earlier!” still comes out as a shocked angered complaint bc to mo he’s a little upset that he tian kept it to himself since he tian never gave off that his hand was ‘hurt’ or said anything, he’s simply stating/explaining why he didn’t know beforehand bc he tian kept his ‘hurt’ hand to himself. it still comes across worried and guilty for not having noticed it earlier which is what he tian milks out with his “i was waiting for you to notice..” lol. I think if it was coming across as doubting him (which ironically he should have considering he tian was faking lmao), it would have been something like “your hand isn’t broken, if it was, you would’ve said something earlier” or “BUT you never said it earlier” but it’s not, it’s just simply explaining a fact that he didn’t mention it earlier which is why mo couldn’t have known, not exactly doubt. hope that makes sense?? and I haven’t seen anyone else mention that it looks to be that he doubted him which is why I wanted to assure your worries, bb . especially with the actions mo is doing as well and the worried sweat going down his face as he said it, he was clearly worried (and gullible, he never doubted he tian for even a sec ) and people know that he was really freaking out for him

even the whole sentence “你他妈不早说!” if you put in any translation service (although always not as accurate), will come out as him saying something along the lines of “you didn’t say so earlier!”, one even says “you didn’t tell me the damn thing!” on baidu. ultimately I think it still comes across fine for most people so it’s okay, bb. :) hope nothing I’ve said has offended you, I don’t want any feelings to be hurt (just in case cause some tones can be lost across the internet I feel)...
