I kinda support the regret part. I remember reading a story in which the more reincarnations a character went through, the smarter they became in each timeline, therefore accumulating their intelligence and also explaining why geniuses are born in the world. It kinda hit a chord in me...
So I want to believe that the Emperor is following the regrets of his previous incarnation and it's his subconscious that is strongly making him be this way
It's lowkey weird that the current emperor is so different from the one in the past even though they look the same and has so many similarities. It makes me wonder if there was more to what happened in their past life. Maybe someone was pulling the strings and manipulating them and the emperor was poisoned or something or maybe he regretted his actions so much it changed the fate of his reincarnation or something lmaooo
