the duke was in need of money, so he married her for her money. she didnt wanna get married to him, so shes basically being used. she deserves better :(
Ah, I think it was the ridiculous notion that she had her innocence taken by a random man, that she was deviled even though the only thing she did was refuse him? No one wanted to marry her so I think she was sold off by her father to the 'only' man who 'wanted' her.
