It might be a spoiler, I am not sure because I read it way before and am kind of mixing up the stories.
But,
King has divine powers and she has black, so they both can't sense the others power or magic. So that's probably why everyone is not sure what was going on.
The king that said there was nothing within the palace , then what about the withering plants
