I think it's saying that their adoptive mother was speaking there. The whole 'she named us like a cat' thing seems to imply that the names were rather arbitrarily picked. It was a bit confusing but it seems like she was telling them their names there. I don't think this is a reincarnation thing. :)
No it's not reincarnated. The aunt took them in and named them after a novel she was reading
