No the iris is the coloured part of the eye. The pupil is the black dot...
And it is like I said earlier...in fact drawn correctly. The pupil is always going to be slightly on the opposite end of the looking direction because it's dipped inside a little. But it cannot be right on the edge of anything regardless what angle the eye looks at. (if you ask me how I know this, it's because my bestie draws professionally...)

it really bothers me how the pupil is on the wrong side of the eye whenever there's a close-up panel of their eye
