So, why do so many isekai mangas have slavery? Like, it's painted as OK with no actual issues.

Since with isekai stories, it's a time when the rulers like nobles and royalties have the authority. There's bound to be a noble or ten that use slaves as a means to do their work. I really dont like the ones where slaves dont have any rights tho. At least this looks like slaves are somewhat taken care of. Well, this is just my opinion hehe

we still need to remember that even if isekai is another world its still potrays the history of our world

What gets me is how most of the protagonists react with 'Well due to my "modern sensibilities" (whatever that means) I don't like it too much but, since I have no backbone or personal convictions, I see no reason to resent it. When in Rome and all that.' On top of that a lot of these Isekai will really go out of their way to explain that, while yes it is slavery, it's not really all that bad. They make excuses as to why the main character really needs a slave and that's fine because of reasons. Sigh. I don't understand why they're going to all the trouble.

    Agreed! People are weird.
I suppose it was supposed to be "romantic", the slave taken by a kind master and falling in love?? And then it unfortunately stayed even though mentality changed.

well at least here slaves are not treated badly but i do agree with your point but in the time period it is based in it is very normal to have a slave for what ever purposes i think they are just trying to make the story more believable

Sorry to nitpick but, what time period are isekai in after all? Besides, is it really ok to have your MC so susceptible to peer pressure? 'Everyone else is doing it, so I guess?' However, even so, I wouldn't mind the slavery in isekai, if they had a more definite purpose for it. At this point, I really don't think they do it to be more believable. Maybe it is the romance angle previously mentioned? I don't know...

well the trend is to base it in medieval Europe with magic and other races added to it I think because it is very similar to those times

yeah and the problem is the mc always picks the most pitiful one so that he can help her and she will feel a sense of gratitude and loyalty for him
