I would say that's true if it wasn't for one specific detail, they're leaving for two whole months (61 days), that gives the author time to fully develop the characters and the story without having to kill them off.
Noooo don't do that to Appi and Toki-san T_T
I'm really hoping that after 2 months of living with him, Appi with form a super close bond with Toki and Chihiro and choose to stay there ^^ No grandparent death required
My pessimistic self can't help but think that something bad will happen to the grandparents I hope I'm wrong
