Ikr I noticed this too and it really bothers me. Even if the love interest literally treats the MC like trash, harasses and r#pes the MC people are like " can't wait for the character development " Nah honey he needs jail, not a character development.
And no, the MC does not need to "understand him" he is not a therapist. He is not a mind reader. He can not understand him if he doesn't communicate. And no harassing and acting jealous is not communication.

And I'm sad because this is not how mxm relationships are. I remember reading a book online where the MC and love interest had a bad start, like a really really bad start (not as bad as this tho) but you know what the love interest did after he went too far and hurt the MC? He went to therapy. :D

and it honestly made me so happy, because therapy is never an option in any of the manga and manhwa that I find.
And the MC was not and idiot that forgave the love interest in a blink of an eye. it actually took him about 6 month, I think? Or maybe even longer than that. In those 6 months the love interest was apologizing to the MC and showing him that he can be a better person, (he did snap sometimes or made a mistake but he was trying none the less) and he didn't push the MC into forgiving him and didn't force him to do so. He simply waited and treated the MC right until the MC finally started forgiving him and they became friends before they got together (which I though was the cutest thing ever).
They even considered going to a couples therapy ( is that what you call it?) If things get out of hand. And after they got together the MC would make it clear if he didn't like something the love interest did and the love interest would also do the same. I remember the MC getting angry at the love interest for being overly jealous and possessive and he pointed it out to him and told him not to act like that because it makes him uncomfortable and he feels like he doesn't trust him. They also discussed consent in the book and I think it was about the MC not wanting to do it even after they got together because he wasn't ready yet and because of his trauma.

I'm even more sad now because I don't remember the name of the book.
